Is Charles Ramsey's Past Really That Important

A hot ticket item in the media this week, aside from Kim K’s poor choice in wearing that God awful flower bed to the Met Gala, was that of a Cleveland, OH man by the name of Charles Ramsey and his heroic action in helping to save three women who were held captive for ten years in a pit of despair.

Social media lit up like a Christmas tree with admirable conversations and a few laughs at Ramsey’s expense, penning him as the next Sweet Brown sensation. But what bothers me about this incident is how the media is not allowing this man who clearly stepped up to the plate to save these women have his moment without digging up his past of domestic abuse and time in prison.

Stiletto Diaries: My Relationship With My Natural Hair

For the past few months now I have been seriously thinking. Thinking about my natural hair and what I should do with it. Should I relax it, cut it, braid it, weave it or just wig it – are all questions I have mulled over and over, going back and forth on what I should do.

Domain Name Change

I'm moving the blog's domain back to www.mediaandstilettos.com. That (dot)blogspot hanging off the end was irritating me so I secured the domain I let fall by the wayside earlier this year yet again! Whoo...hoo!

If you are a regular visitor/reader of the blog, thank you kindly for your time spent here reading my thoughts. I ask that you please make note of the new domain name and be sure to save it in your bookmarks. The change will be effective this Friday.

Event: Media Mashup - Monetizing The Converged Media Landscape

There is still time to register for the Media Mashup event to be held next Tuesday. Get in where you fit in!

Via: Media Mashup

The distinction between print and digital media is increasingly blurring. Readers seamlessly shift between channels, sometimes engaging many simultaneously. Social networks and new technologies have transformed the way information is produced and shared. Entrepreneurial media companies have emerged, disrupting legacy business models and threatening even established "old media" companies.

The Key To Surviving In Today’s Publishing Industry: Andy Cohn, President and Publisher of The Fader Has Some Answers

I came across an interview on Media Bistro with the president and publisher of The Fader magazine, Andy Cohn and found it to be very insightful and interesting. As an independent publisher who made the decision to place Prominence on hiatus for 2013 to refocus its direction, he ignited my passion for publishing again in a way that inspires me to get back on that publishing horse and see my vision through.

MSNBC Ad Push Conservatives Over The Edge

That’s all it took. The 30 second “Lean In” ad with MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry expressing that our children belong to whole communities and not just to their parents or families was all they needed to hear to bring out their horns, spit polish them and get crunk again for battle. Those that I am referring to are none other than Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Pailn – heck let’s go there - conservative media. Do people not have anything better to do than to make comments that don’t make any sense on things that do? I wonder if the world would still go around if those who always get off on stirring the pot over nothing, got a prescription for a chill pill and had several seats. Because it’s clear to me that they are not comprehending what Harris-Perry is saying nor do they want to. They want to turn what she implied in the ad in to her wanting to take every kid that walks the face of the earth out of their homes and let them roam free in their communities like beasts of the Southern wild. Like why would she want to do that? That’s not what she meant; so for those conservative types – you’re making a big deal out of nothing. Seriously. Really…it’s not that serious. It’s just an ad, not a call to put out all point bulletins.

One Of The Best Lines In All Of Reality TV

Episode #2 of The Gossip Game aired last night and while I pretty much lost interest after watching the premiere, I had the television on VH1 because 1. I was too lazy to find the remote. 2. I was engrossed in the April issue of Ebony magazine and 3. I was stuffing my face with gummy worms, to be interested enough to pay any attention to what was transpiring on the screen. But...what perked my ears up was when Jasfly said to Ms. Drama and I quote, "You are a black woman! You represent me everywhere you go!"
