The One & Only Iris Apfel

Iris Apfel - one word - FIERCE!  This is one woman who has the style game down to a science. Love her! The glasses, the layered necklaces, and big bracelets - she's my inspiration.

A Chic Leopard Rug

I'm gathering decorating ideas for my place, and this leopard rug gracing the floor of this townhome is something chic. It's something that you wouldn't normally expect, but I love how this rug is out in the open and not in a bedroom or walk-in closet. It deserves to be seen by everyone.

Similar here.

Books Books & More Books

If you don't know, I absolutely love to read. I'm always buying a book or two or three when out and about...almost by habit.  I read a lot of non-ficiton - business and self-help books, but when I read novels it's to break up the seriousness of the non-fiction books that I've been reading.

Two of my favorite fiction authors are Candace Bushnell, the genius behind Carrie Bradshaw and the UK based Madeline Wickham, who brought the Confessions of a Shopaholic series to life, under the name of Sophie Kinsella. Madeline seems to put a book out every year, and I've made it a point to read every one of them.

I was in Target earlier this week and saw Cocktails for Three, 40 Love, and The Gatecrasher. I picked them up without a second thought.

I will be reading these this fall, so look out for my review.  If you missed my book review on By Invitation Only - How We Built Gilt, check it out here

Here's to happy reading!

2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony

Did you see it? Were you just as intrigued and and amazed as I was? Last night the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics was...how can I put it...pretty fierce if you ask me. The planning, precision, and perfect timing of everything, including the 1500 people who took part was sheer genius. That is what you call an extravagant celebration. I loved it!

Paris Fashion of the 1930's

How fierce are these ladies!? Nothing else needs to be said. I would wear each and everyone of these; proudly!

Jane Norman Pleated Belted Maxi

I want! That's all I can say about this Jane Norman Pleated Belted Maxi, but they are out of my size! Believe me, I've checked and double checked.

The wonderful thing about his dress is that you can dress it up or down and pair a different belt with it to give it some edge. Love!

Jewelry Haul

I have a thing for jewelry, so over the past few weeks I've purchased a few pieces from TJ Maxx, Body Central, and Claire's. Women can never have too many of one thing (bags, shoes, jewelry) so when I'm out and if I see something that catches my eye, I'm going to purchase it.

Above are my most recent earring purchases from Body Central (two on top), TJ Maxx (BCBG), and Claire's (bottom three).  The two from Body Central are what I like to call statement pieces; big and unique. With earrings like those you don't need to wear any other jewelry pieces, especially around your neck because they are so big.

Let the 2012 Summer Olympics Begin

Hi Media & Fashion Mavens! I hope your week has been productive. The weekend is here and I'm so excited about the opening ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

I wish I was in London right this very second to catch the blow by blow on all the events, games, and everything else in between, but I'm not! Soooo, I'm going to place myself in front of my flat screen and pretend that I'm in the UK with a fierce fascinator on my head cheering on Team USA! I'm going to give my account of the games as if I was actually there, so be sure to check back here over the next couple of weeks see what I had to say.

Will you be watching the Olympics? What are you most excited to see?

Tameka Raymond's Son Declared Brain Dead

At the beginning of the weekend, Tameka Raymond, the estranged wife of R&B superstar, Usher rushed to her son, Kyle Glover's side after learning of the terrible accident he was in on Lake Lanier in Atlanta, GA.

Struck in the head by a jet ski, Kyle Glover has now been declared brain dead by doctors after no signs of brain activity.  There has been no decision as of yet to remove him from life support.

My prayers go out to the Raymond and Glover family.

Lickety-Split Lime By Sally Hansen

If you follow me on Instagram, you know already that I changed my nail color this week from Co-Bolt Blue to Lickety-Split Lime by Sally Hansen.  I thought this color would be a fun and bright way to start the week.

I'm a huge Sally Hansen fan and pretty much will buy anything they place on the shelves. I think I'm going to give their Pedicure Salon Effects a try next. If you've already tried them let me know what you think.

What nail polish colors are your favorite this summer?

Serena Williams A Champion After Our Hearts

Did you watch Wimbledon over the weekend?  Better yet, did you watch Serena Williams in particular? All I have to say is this woman is BAD!  She's an athlete with not only heart and determination, but with an unshakable faith that proves that no matter how many times you may be knocked down, if you chose to get back up and fight, you will win.

It's no secret she endured quite a lot over the past year with her health, which left many thinking will we see her back out there doing what she loves to do.  Well, this weekend opened a lot of eyes and hearts to Serena who came back to claim the title or should I say TITLES!

After the match, Williams spoke on her determination to win by saying: "Yeah, people were thinking, 'Can she do it again?' But now I'm winning titles. I don't hear what people say, and quite frankly I don't really care. Everyone's allowed to think what they want, to say what they want. Ultimately, I'm the one out there and I make my own destiny."

I'm happy for her.  She's back on top and has allowed herself to be an example of a true champion.

Rhianna Covers the August 2012 Harper's Bazaar

The bad girl I would like to be if I could get away with it would be none other than Rhianna.  She covers the August 2012 issue of Harper's Bazaar looking fresh faced and innocent like the fierce chameleon that she is.

In this issue she talks about the following:

Her rebellious behavior:
"I'm rebellious through my music, through my fashion, tattoos, and my hair. I have been conservative in my love life… it's pretty much nonexistent. If I come across someone who I find really cool, I'll hang out. But the minute I find that we’re getting too close I just—I don't let people in."
About Chris Brown's "Birthday Cake" remix:
"The fans could have said, 'We don’t want anything to do with it." I understood that people had every right to be concerned about it. But I didn't see it that way because I'm in a different place."
Being fearful of love again:
"When I was in love, I fell so hard. I was really, really, really in love. The way it made me feel was priceless. And in a blink of an eye my whole life changed. Everything that I knew was different. I never thought I'd feel that pain in my life. I'm afraid of feeling that again."
Her new slim body:
"I don't know if there's something going on with my body right now, but I’m eating everything in life!" she laughs. "I miss my ass. It just went away! I need a butt. I have an idea of one, but it's not living up to its full potential right now."

Sofia Vergara Covers Vanity Fair Spain

Sofia Vergara covers the July 2012 issue of Vanity Fair Spain.  The 39 year old Modern Family actress shows us a different side of sexy as she poses in a red jumpsuit while puffin' on a lucy.

Go Sofia!

7 For All Mankind Kauai Floral Skinny

I was thumbing through the latest issue of People Style Watch, and saw this photo of Minka Kelly casually pulling off a cute pair of 7 For All Mankind Kauai Floral Skinny cotton and spandex jeans. They looked chic on her and I liked how she kept the look comfortable with thong sandals, a t-shirt, and cardigan.

I went in search of these skinnies on the 7 For All Mankind website and found them here. Priced at $109.00, they have a second skin fit, skinny from top to bottom, and a short inseam for a clean look.

I would wear them.  Do you like?

The Bag Carrie Bradshaw Made Famous Is Back

If you're like me, you dreamed of having unique designer pieces like the ones living in Carrie Bradshaw's Sex and the City closet. Everything she wore I scanned with my eyes as she pranced around New York City with her girlfriends discussing life, love, and most importantly - - clothes!

Carrie was known for carrying variations of a particular bag that I'm sure was placed on many wish lists and vision boards back in the day.  Well...it's back!  The Fendi Baguette Book and vintage bags are back!

To celebrate Fendi's 15 years of the Baguette bag, Rizzoli published a coffee table book in its honor.  A coffee table book, it illustrates the story behind the bag, which is available in 700 versions (it's safe to say that Carrie probably had about 100 of them).  Known as the first "It" bag, French retailer Colette is now selling 37 of the vintage bags ranging in prices from $800 - $29,000!  The book on the other hand is a mere $75 bucks, which may be a little easier on the purse strings.

Book Review: By Invitation Only - How We Built Gilt

I just completed By Invitation Only: How We Built Gilt and Changed The Way Millions Shop by Alexis Maybank and Alexandra Wilkis Wilson. These extraordinary women founded the Gilt Groupe and as the subtitle indicates - changed the way millions shop.

If you have never heard of Gilt Groupe, don't feel bad.  I didn't either until I picked up the book and the only reason I picked up the book was because the title alone caught my attention. Gilt Groupe is an exclusive by members only online shopping experience where consumers with "disposable income" can purchase designer apparel, home goods, and the like at a discount.  Some of their sales are up to 60% off of the actual retail price.  Enough to make a lover of fashion intrigued enough to give the Gilt experience a try.

Okay...back to the book.

By Invitation Only tells the story of how what was once an idea manifested into what is now a billion dollar company in under six years.  These ladies along with the other founding members, Kevin Ryan, Mike Bryzek, and Phong Nguyen filled a void by creating a niche in the fashion industry - the online sample sale.

TJ Maxx Haul

I'm doing a haul!  Yep...I'm going to be doing a TJ Maxx haul sharing all that I've purchased over the past month.  I was motivated to do a haul after I shopped TJ Maxx yesterday and got over like a fat rat.  I really lucked up and I'm so excited.

Instead of taking pictures and posting everything on the blog, I'm going to do a video and post it on my Youtube channel so expect that tomorrow.  :)

What fashionable discounted finds have you lucked up on?

4th of July Fun

4th of July Fun

Happy 4th of July!  Are you ready to celebrate America's independence, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy a bevy of cookouts and beach parties?  If so, there is no better way to enjoy the day than in something comfortable and casually chic.

This look can easily be replicated by throwing on a pair of cut off shorts and a light and airy tank. What I love about this look is the pop of green color (which happens to be one of my fav colors) that pulls the look together like a perfect bow.

What look will you go for this 4th of July?

Willow Smith's I Am Me

If you watched the 2012 BET Awards this past Sunday there's a pretty good chance that you saw the premiere of Willow Smith's new music video, I Am Me.  If you listened to the lyrics it was easy to get a grasp on what the 11 year old was saying - and that's she's free to be who she is without having to explain or apologize for it.

In my opinion Willow has a level of confidence that many adults don't even have. That says a lot about how she is being raised and how she views herself.  Some people feel that she's a little too mature for her age, but her level of confidence is healthy. She believes in herself and her abilities and because of that she will go far.

I like the song and the video. What are your thoughts?

One of America's Favorite Dad Passes Away

Getty Images
Yesterday, one of America's most notable fathers passed away.  Mr. Any Griffith at the age of 86 died of an unspecified illness as CNN has reported, at his home in Roanoke Island, NC.  He was also laid to rest yesterday on the land of his beloved home.

The Andy Griffith show was a regular in my home growing up.  It was one of my parent's favorite shows to watch and to be honest, I became hooked on it as well.

Andy Griffith will be missed.  May he rest in peace.

Back to Bloggin on A Regular

Hi lovelies!  I hope you are having  a pretty awesome summer so far.  As for me...YES! I've been so busy doing my job with Prominence magazine and lining up details for the sister publication Flirt (launching September - can't wait for you fierce and fab ladies to see it), that I've been MIA from Media & Stilettos for far tooooo long.

Well today, I'm setting aside time to blog this afternoon/early eveing and share some posts on fashion, media, books, and anything that sounds pretty darn interesting to blog about.  Also, I want to catch up with all of you who have left comments, which I sincerely appreciate.  Whoo...hoo!!!  :)

The mug above is from one of my fav places to shop - TJ Maxx (the bag in the background is another TJ Maxx purchase. Will blog about it later too).  It's filled with black tea and honey - how I usually like to start my day and on that note...time make the donuts!
